If you live in or around Rockford, Michigan, and have an interest in Artist Trading Cards or altered books, be sure to check out my upcoming classes, offered through Rockford Community Services. We'll be making a big mess as we explore the creative process and experiment with a range of techniques and materials, from aging paper with distress inks and paper dye to crafting mixed media collages with paper, found objects, fibers and more.

Classes are open to anyone ages 16 and up. You don't need to be a resident of Rockford to attend ... and you don't need any prior art experience. Whether you're a beginner who wants to learn the basics or a seasoned pro who just wants to get messy and experiment with new techniques, these classes are sure to offer plenty of new ideas. Plus, it's the perfect midweek distraction from the long, cold Michigan winter... Sign up online or call 863-6322 to register in person or by mail. Class sizes are limited.

ARTIST TRADING CARDS

Artist Trading Cards are small playing card- sized creations traded and swapped around the world ... but you don’t have to be an “artist” to join the fun. Join us as we explore this growing movement in miniature art and learn step-by-step how to construct these one-of-a-kind art cards. Students will create 6 artist trading cards suitable for framing or swapping while exploring the use of collage elements, found objects, fibers and distress inks. Please bring scissors and a ruler to class; all other tools and materials will be provided. Instructor: Chandra Orr. #1060-W13A

Part scrapbook, part journal, part experiment, altered books are an adventure in pure creativity. Put your imagination to the test as we transform an ordinary used book into a stunning work of art using collage, mixed media, recycled elements and personal mementos. Students will experiment with a range of altered arts techniques using inks, dyes, paints, fibers, vintage ephemera and found objects while learning the fundamentals of the creative process. Come prepared to get messy and let out your inner artist! No previous art experience necessary.
